New Year, New Trends
And just like that, we’re already two months into 2018. You often live with the same kitchen for a fairly long time so you always have to be careful with trends. While some trends will remain timeless, other trends are left behind and the last thing you want is for your kitchen to look outdated too soon. Nevertheless, old trends make way for new trends and we’re always looking forward to what the new year brings in. Here are a few that we’re definitely excited about.

White marble will never go out of trend when it comes to kitchen designs but there’s been a clear rise in darker counters and bench tops, from granite to soapstone. Dark counters are easier to maintain and can adds a strong, dramatic feature to your kitchen.

Open Display Islands
We’re seeing a lot more creativity when it comes to kitchen islands, both practically and aesthetically. Islands are growing in popularity and becoming more than just storage space or another work bench. We’re seeing added sinks, dining spaces, open shelving, and other clever ideas.

Last month we covered the benefits of light or dark cabinets so we guess the question now is, why not both? Dark lower cabinets with lighter upper cabinets have been popular but now its about mixing tones, textures and materials. A popular combination we’ve been seeing often are dark blues and navies paired with natural light timbers.

The use of vibrant and brighter colour schemes is definitely continuing to grow, whether it’s minimal use with pops of bright colours or complete maximalism. We’re noticing people are less afraid of experimenting nowadays and really allowing their kitchens to have some personality.
The storage space in your kitchen doesn’t just have to be basic cabinets. We’re noticing some new and clever shelving ideas nowadays, whether it’s open shelves or statement shelving from the floor up to the ceiling. Get creative and it’ll open opportunities for décor as well.

Handles are Back
Handle-less cabinets have become intertwined with modern and contemporary kitchen designs over the past decade so it’s great to see handles making a real comeback. With so many different design possibilities, different materials and colour options, what’s there not to be excited about?
